Class Digs

Apparently posting pictures of your classroom is the trendy thing to do, so here I woo you with some stellar cell phone BEFORE photos:

This is what my classroom looked like upon my arrival in mid September, look at those awesome folding chairs which we were blessed to get rid of.

The view from behind my desk, yes we have one computer for in class student use.

These are admittedly the biggest dislike I have about my room, LOCKERS! I would love built in storage that was for classroom supplies, or even another bulletin board. Unfortunately all of our portables have these lockers inside of them, even in division one. Sometimes manufactures fail to take in the size of children into account, the littlest ones most certainly do not utilize that top row.

View of dinner, and the room from my desk. We have high, mainly inaccessible, bulletin boards above the whole of the whiteboard and smartboard.

The best part of the classroom, is these glorious windows which mean I can get away with not having lights on for most of the year... and in winter, we can sneak by with one set only till the darkness dissipates.

See what I mean by that awesome sunlight to read in.

I am lucky to have a smartboard, although for me it just tends to be a fancy projection screen. Smartboards dent, this one was dented before I arrived. Writing on it or touching it is impossible,
thankfully the Splashtop app exists and I utilize my stylus on my ipad.

It would truthfully be my preference to not have a specified desk space (or even a desk), let alone a built in one which takes up 1/4 of the room space. It has my desktop computer on it, and well, this is just a mash of stuff. I lacked a filing cabinet and shelving suitable for books or binders.

This is further proof of how massive my desk space is. What you cannot tell from this photo, is that there is a child sitting directly to my left, one behind my desk working with me, one across from me, and two more further along the side of the desk out of frame. My desk makes awesome space for group work.

Count 'em, four desks! These are the students who like to talk to me, and chose to sit here.
We are a BYOD school, which is wonderful, the student who's kindle is on the desk... also has an ipad and iphone inside of his desk too. We might need to work on the overkill thing next year.

I also have a wonderful document camera, here we are building a paper airplane for part of our flight unit.

This is just proof of my interesting students who also dig reading.
